On Halloween in 1994, Ed Maier packed his car, went to a Phish show in Glen Falls, NY, and then moved to Burlington, Vermont without ever being there before. It was a decision that changed his life forever. While working in the service industry as a bartender and then general manager, he went to as many Phish shows as he could, totaling over 400. These Phish shows, along with other concerts, revealed what he wanted to do with his life.
As the general manager of a restaurant and lounge in Winooski, VT, Ed suggested that Dave “The Truth” Grippo, the leader of the Sneaker’s Jazz Band, should make the lounge his home. This residency lasted about two years, during which time Ed booked various acts, including Gordon Stone and Jamie Maesfield. This opportunity led to working with bands such as Strangefolk and RAQ. After leaving Vermont, Ed’s production work grew significantly. He began working on major events, including the Global Citizens Concerts in Central Park and the Super Bowl Experience. Additionally, he toured with high-profile artists such as Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Eminem, and Rihanna. In 2007, he moved to Asbury Park, where he reignited his talent buying career as the managing partner of Chico’s House of Jazz and by starting ElmThree Productions.
From there he became the Events Manager for Asbury Park Boardwalk who owns Convention Hall, Paramount Theatre, The Stone Pony, and Wonder Bar. During that time, he produced over 1000 concerts and created the extremely successful summer concert series, Jams on the Sand and Asbury Jams. In 2022, he led the charge on the revitalization of Nectar’s and merged Nectar’s Presents with ElmThree Productions. It has grown into one of the more powerful independent promoters, talent buyers, and now artist managers in the Northeast working with over a dozen venues in six markets. 2025 brings a change back to the roots of ELM3. Onward and upward.
