SUMMARY:Mihali (full band) @ Wonder Bar for North 2 Shore
DESCRIPTION:For Mihali\, music behaves much like a living being. It grows\, it matures\, and it changes with a sentient consciousness and with whims of its own. And just like music\, the Vermont-based singer\, songwriter\, guitarist\, and co-founder of rock outfit Twiddle continues to evolve\, using his gift as one of the strongest modern-day songwriters\, guitarists and performers to bring healing vibes and unforgettable songs to the world. \nHis 2022 record\, Effection [released via Ineffable Records]\, was a ten-track body of work that intertwines reggae spirit\, fluid soundscape architecture\, and invigorating mantras meant to be chanted aloud in a packed venue. With support from reggae and roots rock mainstays like Iration\, Chadwick Stokes (of Dispatch)\, The Movement\, The Elovaters\, Jacob Hemphill (of SOJA)\, and Iya Terra\, Effection effectively brought Mihali into the reggae spotlight\, landing him on tour with SOJA and G. Love & Special Sauce in 2024. \nContinually growing and transforming with his music\, Mihali has released his 3rd studio record\, Before The Dream [May 2\, 2025 via Ineffable Records]\, a 14-track journey that delves into his personal psyche and delivers messages about life and vibes meant for a day on the beach or a smoke sesh with friends. Before The Dream once again features numerous huge names in the worlds of reggae\, rock and pop music including Little Stranger\, Tropidelic\, Lily Fangz\, G. Love\, Brett Dennen\, Andy Frasco\, Seven Suns\, Satsang\, and Moon Taxi\, who’s guitarist/producer Spencer Thomson also produced the record (alongside contributions from DENM and Aurorawave’s Nathan Feinstein). \nWith a constant touring schedule and new music rolling out on a monthly basis – with more sure to come even after his new record – Mihali continues to expand his reach\, touching the hearts and souls of anyone who takes the time to listen.

SUMMARY:Eddie 9V w/ Billy Walton Band @ Wonder Bar for Asbury Jams / North 2 Shore
DESCRIPTION:Eddie 9V has an endless stockpile of cool stories – and you’ll find twelve of them on his most recent studio album Saratoga\, released in November 2024 on the fabled Ruf Records label. A thrilling mix of Southern soul\, blues\, rock\, and funk\, Saratoga proved to be a gamechanger: a road trip-ready record filled with razor-sharp observations\, vintage textures\, and raw humanity. It also marked a major career milestone: Eddie 9V’s soulful sound began reaching hundreds of thousands of new fans across the globe. \nNow signed to Easy Eye Sound — the Nashville-based label founded by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys — Eddie 9V is preparing to release a brand-new album in 2026. And the momentum keeps growing. Since Saratoga dropped\, Eddie’s monthly listeners on Spotify have exploded from 8\,000 to peaking at over 800\,000.. Songs like “Halo\,” “Saratoga” and “Love Moves Slow” have become SiriusXM Spectrum-certified tracks\, gaining steady spins and major audience love. \nBut this rise is years in the making. From the day he first slung a guitar on a local Georgia stage\, Eddie 9V (born Brooks Mason) has been an artist to watch. First cutting his teeth in cover bands and regional blues circuits\, he made the leap to full-time frontman with a name that couldn’t be ignored. “I wanted to start from scratch – and I ain’t never heard of no bluesman named Eddie 9V.” \nThat leap paid off. His early albums Left My Soul In Memphis (2019) and Little Black Flies (2021) turned heads for their wild energy and vintage flair. 2022’s Capricorn was a breakout moment\, earning rave reviews from Classic Rock\, The Guardian\, and more. It debuted at #1 on the blues charts before being dethroned by Bonnie Raitt — “a cool story to be able to say\,” Eddie laughs. \nBy the time Saratoga arrived\, Eddie 9V had evolved into a full-spectrum songwriter\, tapping into deep wells of soul and storytelling alongside his brother and longtime collaborator Lane Kelly. Much of the album was recorded at their Echo Deco Studio in Atlanta\, with some sessions at Denver’s Crown Lanes Studio. From the disco-tinged horns of the title track to the fuzzed-out dreamscape of “Delta\,” it’s a record that widened the lens without losing the grit. \nNow with a major label partner\, national tours\, SiriusXM airplay\, and streaming growth that shows no signs of slowing\, Eddie 9V is poised for the next chapter. A new album is on the horizon. The band is sharper than ever. And if Saratoga was the ignition\, what’s coming next is the open highway. \n“I’m already writing new songs\,” he says. “You never stop.”

SUMMARY:The Hip Abduction on the Seaside Heights Beach w/ Will Evans
DESCRIPTION:TSR\, Social Rootz and ElmThree Presents The Hip Abduction with Will Evans. \nBlaine Ave Beach Entrance  on the Boardwalk \nTHE HIP ABDUCTION \nSometimes inspiration strikes from the immersion of living in a far away place. The view of the ocean. The sound of a rainforest at sunrise. The smell of an open-air market. The embrace of the wild human experience. However\, maybe the nostalgia for a certain place might be attributed instead to a feeling\, or a time\, or even a person. Sometimes\, inspiration stems from a place that everyone can relate to\, but maybe no one’s actually been. This is the music of The Hip Abduction\, the vibrant St. Petersburg\, FL-based collective that formed over a mutual appreciation for West African and early Jamaican reggae/dub music. \nWILL EVANS \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWill Evans pulls everyone into his embrace. He musically accesses a space without boundaries where all are welcome to commune openly and move freely. Through quotable folk-inspired lyrics\, breezy grooves\, and roots energy\, it’s as if he’s giving you permission to be that pure self you can’t always be at work or even at home… \nThe Rhode Island-based singer\, songwriter\, and multi-instrumentalist also puts his words into action via his “Kind Folk” fan community\, activating small acts of kindness\, charity\, and goodwill in tandem with performances nationwide. After generating over 50 million streams independently\, he inspires once again through a series of 2024 releases and much more to come. \n“I want to make music that moves you\,” he states. “It’s rooted in compassion\, kindness\, and community. With anything I release\, there’s a lot of passion behind it. I’m always giving you the most authentic version of myself.” \nBuzzing out of the East Coast\, he has consistently engaged and enraptured a fervent audience. By rotating between acoustic guitar\, didgeridoo\, handpan\, percussive beatboxing\, and more\, he has developed a living and breathing signature sound of his own. Following Wishin’ Well [2013] and Signal Flares [2015]\, he reached a creative tipping point on Rise [2018]. Beyond collaborations with Trevor Hall\, Mihali\, and Paul Izak\, it yielded the fan favorites “Adam & Eve”\, “Rise” and “Hoka Hey” with over 5 million streams and counting. The album notably garnered three nominations at the New England Music Awards. 2023 saw him share After The Burnt Out Sun. Met with critical acclaim\, “a sophisticated collection\,” Seven Days professed\, “the record showcases Evans’ multi-instrumentalist prowess.” Between selling out shows across the United States and Europe\, he has graced bills alongside Crosby & Nash\, Grace Potter\, Bruce Hornsby\, Michael Franti & Spearhead\, Trevor Hall\, and Railroad Earth\, to name a few. Meanwhile\, “Kind Folk” has supported philanthropic organizations\, including Surfrider Foundation\, Operation Warm\, Do It For The Love Foundation\, Always Home\, and more. Their campaigns have ranged from beach cleanups\, clothing and food drives and benefits for land trust organizations. \nAll the while\, he continually pushes himself sonically. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBlaine Ave Beach Entrance  on the Boardwalk

SUMMARY:High Fade at Wonder Bar
DESCRIPTION:Funk/Rock trio High Fade –consisting of founder Harry Valentino (Guitar\, Vocals)\, Oliver Sentence (Bass\, Mustache) and drummer Heath Campbell (Drums) has grown from Scotland’s most excited busking band into a household name across the world after bursting onto the scene with viral sensations such as “Burnt Toast & Coffee”\, “Gossip”\, “Burnin’”\, and an audacious cover of Herbie Hancock’s “Chameleon”. Sold out tours across the UK\, USA\, and Europe have seen the band get well over 1\,500 shows under their belt\, allowing High Fade to fast become one of the most ferocious touring bands on the planet. Delivering shows that are packed with raw energy and jaw-dropping musicianship\, thye refuse to accept the limits of what a three-piece band can do. \nWith sold out tours across the UK\, USA\, and Europe; and impactful slots at dozens of festivals like Boomtown (UK)\, Suwannee Hulaween (USA) and Glastonbury –where they performed three times in one day in 2024 –High Fade have come a long way from that street corner in Edinburgh. Drawing inspiration from funk\, rock\, disco\, jazz\, metal\, punk\, soul\, and beyond\, High Fade has developed a sound that explodes out of a rip-roaring melting point of musical influences and tears at the fabric of space time by managing to feel simultaneously fresh and retro. Firecly independent\, the band releases music via their own label RPN Records (“Rippin’ Records”)\, including their debut album\, Life’s Too Fast (2024)\, which charted in the UK\, Ireland\, Germany\, the Netherlands\, USA\, and Australia. Not bad for an independent DIY band operating entirely outside of the Major Label system. High Fade’s sophomore LP\, Twice As Nice\, due for release on RPN Records May 2026\, was recorded at two of the world’s most renowned studios\, East Iris Studios in Nashville and RAK Studios in London. The hotly anticipated new album arrives just in time for the band’s massive 50-date Twice As Nicetour that will bring the band to all corners of the USA and Canada this Spring and Summer.

SUMMARY:Hudson Freeman / lots of hands at Wonder Bar
DESCRIPTION:Hudson Freeman + lots of hands w/s/g YOUBET \nHUDSON FREEMAN \nHudson Freeman is a brooklyn-based Lofi-folk artist\, inspired and forged by the DIY\nmidwest. The 27-year-old Freeman continues to record and perform songs equal-parts\nresonant\, reflective\, and poignant. He has quickly emerged as one of indie’s most\nenthralling new voices. His recent full-length\, is a Folk Artist\, helped solidify his\npresence as the kind of songwriter unafraid to tackle life’s most draining contradictions:\nmodern identity\, digital disconnection\, and faith. \nBorn to Evangelical missionaries\, Hudson started writing songs upon a radical break at\nthe age of thirteen when his family suddenly moved from the suburbs of Dallas to The\nKingdom of Eswatini. The profound influence of indie big-hitters like Sufjan Stevens and\nBon Iver as well as college years spent in Springfield\, Missouri made a do-it-yourself\nmidwesterner out of Hudson. Now\, his new song “If You Know Me” has recently started\ndrawing in attention from the masses\, catapulting Freeman into a wider spotlight than\never. It’s a moody blend of bedroom pop\, folk\, slowcore\, and post-emo\, stitched\ntogether by a singular guitar riff and mantra-style lyrics\, confirming Hudson’s undeniable\nknack for melody. \nLOTS OF HAND \ninto a pretty room — lots of hands’ debut on Fire Talk Records — exists in the tear-stained early mornings of adolescence\, just as the sun makes its first appearance over the horizon and thoughts of the night before begin to subside. A collage of reworked demos\, freewheeling session standouts\, and swatches of instrumental electronics\, into a pretty room emerges as lots of hands’ most thoughtful work to-date. Solemn yet hopeful\, into a pretty room occupies the space between moments of tragedy and triumph\, offering a touching rumination on grief and loss\, growing up and letting go. \nBilly Woodhouse and Elliot Dryden\, the core duo behind lots of hands\, first connected in a Newcastle school music program at age 16. At that point\, Woodhouse had been tinkering with lots of hands as a solo musical outlet\, self-releasing music on Soundcloud and quietly beginning work on 2020’s mistake. Shortly before that record’s release\, Dryden properly joined lots of hands\, an effort which was quickly thwarted by global circumstances outside of anyone’s purview. Separated by geography and global chaos\, Woodhouse and Dryden began work on lots of hands remotely\, exchanging demos online to craft what would become 2021’s largely instrumental there’s someone in this room just like you\, and 2023’s cult favorite fantasy. into a pretty room marks the duo’s first truly collaborative effort\, with Dryden often trekking the vast northern English countryside to write and record in Woodhouse’s bedroom studio. \nBetween pints of beer and rounds of Fortnite\, the two slowly chipped away at into a pretty room\, whose name is lifted from a pair of demos recorded and released in a short span across November of 2023. The earnest tenderness of these tracks — “into a pretty room” and “the rain”\, which appear newly re-recorded for the album — served as guiding light while the duo self-engineered the remainder of into a pretty room. Alongside these newly recorded songs appear Dryden’s unearthed demos\, mined and reworked by Woodhouse. Lead single “game of zeroes” puts Dryden front and center on a Hank Williams-inspired ode to coming up short. “I play a game of zeroes\,” he sings atop acoustic guitar\, piano and digital frills\, “Everyone but me will always win.” Elsewhere\, “masquerade” interrogates defense mechanisms through electronic-speckled indie folk that is both jaded and joyful. \nDryden’s tracks appear alongside Woodhouse’s own songs\, which span from touching instrumentals written for family\, meant to help usher them through a chapter of monumental loss\, to whispered ballads sung with loved ones. “All of my friends agree\, you’re in my head\,” Woodhouse intones alongside close collaborator and former roommate Mage Tears\, “in my head with me.” On the understated late album stunner\, “run your mouth\,” he imagines a lost one as “a bunch of stars\,” and ends the song fixated on “thoughts and memories of us.” Woodhouse’s contributions across into a pretty room ache with loss\, but settle gracefully into sparkling ambient sonics that propel the record on its trajectory of self-discovery and acceptance. “Death is just a word\, the feelings a reminder of past nights in the cold\,” he filters through pitch corrected vocals on “the rain\,” before sighing a resigned “oh well.” \nThese individually conceived tracks passed back and forth between the duo\, as they ventured into their first moments of writing in the same place at the same time. “backseat 30” is the duo’s first joint venture\, and the most immediate song in their discography\, transforming youthful anxieties into an explosive anthem. “I don’t wanna waste my life up\,” Woodhouse manifests atop layers of twangy and kinetic instrumentation\, “hitting the backseat 30\, talking with the dogs and the birdies\, getting my nails all dirty.” Early album centerpiece\, “barnyard\,” marks another proper collaboration on the record\, with Woodhouse and Dryden’s vocals intertwining and reflecting a quiet sadness as looped guitars swirl in a pool of sparkling instrumentation: “I’ll brush your hair through a nightmare\, breathing in the country air.” \nNewly relocated from Leeds to their current base of Newcastle-upon-Tyne\, lots of hands is anchored by the duo’s friendship\, which emanates across the album’s 14 tracks. While conceived across painful moments of growth and grief\, into a pretty room is a decidedly hopeful effort\, crafted between two friends who have spent the better part of the last decade supporting each other through life’s challenges. \n

SUMMARY:Waiting on Mongo at Wonder Bar

SUMMARY:Dogs in a Pile at The Madison Theater
DESCRIPTION:The sandy shores of Asbury Park\, New Jersey are hallowed ground in the Northeast; the rolling waves have ushered generations of venerated musicians to worldwide acclaim. Dogs In A Pile\, an eclectic quintet\, has emerged as the heir apparent to the town’s rich musical legacy. Merging funk\, jazz\, and rock and roll with psychedelia\, the band presents a completely original vibe built on kaleidoscopic soundscapes eerily reminiscent of the days of yesteryear. \nThe Dogs employ a unified approach to performance and songwriting\, crafting aural mosaics through adept instrumentation and humble precocity. As avid storytellers\, they draw inspiration from personal experiences\, balancing life’s foibles with ever-present youthful sanguinity. \nDogs formed when Jersey Shore native and guitar gun-slinger Jimmy Law began playing with family friend Joe Babick (drums) at a young age. Lightning struck when they were introduced to Berklee School of Music student and bass player Sam Lucid\, who immediately suggested fellow Berklee student and keyboard player Jeremy Kaplan. The addition of Berklee student Brian Murray (guitar) in 2019 made for the quintessential final piece in the Dogs’ puzzle. \nA string of sold-out local shows drove the development of a massive Northeast fan base\, affectionately known as the Dog Pound. As the band has traversed new territory\, their astronomical rise has continued nationwide. Armed with an evolving catalog of material and cultivation of an identity unique to Dogs In A Pile\, the quintet is laying down a musical and communal foundation most often associated with the scene’s most beloved acts.

SUMMARY:LaMP at Lark Hall
DESCRIPTION:Join us in welcoming back LaMP ft Russ Lawton\, Scott Metzger\, Ray Paczkowskion Friday\, January 23rd. Doors 7/Show 8\n\n\n\nOn a magical night at Nectar’s\, in Burlington\, VT\, in December of 2018\, three musical masters — Russ Lawton\, Scott Metzger and Ray Paczkowski — came together with alchemical synthesis\, and created a fresh\, so-tight-it’s-free sound\, permeated with technical prowess and a deep-pocket punch. The packed house fortunate enough to be in attendance that night witnessed the birth of something very special: LaMP. \nMetzger\, described by The Village Voice as “…an ace guitarist of a thousand styles\,” and a full-time member of the beloved Joe Russo’s Almost Dead\, tested the decades-strong synergy between Lawton and Paczkowski\, forged from their time playing with Trey Anastasio Band andtheir duo project Soule Monde. The melodic and harmonic interplay of Paczkowski’s swirling organ and clavinet dancing with Metzger’s acrobatic melodies on telecaster\, both driven by Lawton’s unflappable backbeat\, produces music that is immediate and irresistible. It’s the chemistry that drives LaMP’s newest studio album\, “One Of Us\,” which arrives on March 21 via Royal Potato Family. The trio previewed the record with the lead single\, “Jasper’s World.” \n“One of Us” follows LaMP’s 2024 release\, “Live At Nectar’s\,” captured at the famed Burlington club where the band formed. The new studio effort — cut at Ben Collette’s Tank Recording Studio in Burlington — marks the trio’s first since releasing their 2020 self-titled debut album. \n“This record has more of a gritty\, edgy sound to it compared to our first one\,” Metzger said of”One Of Us.” “The first album felt clean and smooth. ‘One Of Us’ has more attitude. It still emphasizes melody\, groove\, and accessibility like the first record\, but this one feels like we’ve got some more miles under our belt\, which makes sense since 2024 was a big year for our little band. \n“Most of these tunes started from beats Russ sent around\, and Ray or I would put down aharmonic or melodic idea we thought captured the mood of the groove\,” Metzger added. “LaMP definitely started with a sound right from the first show and it continues to grow as we write new songs\,” Lawton said. “Someone will come in with a song — or I’ll pass along a rhythmic concept — and we’ll build from there.” \n“It’s the next sounds of three musicians who are playing what they feel\, and feeling it as one\,”Paczkowski added. “The album is called One Of Us\, but if there is a theme to this record\, it might be ‘three of us.’ We’re all writers in the sense of courting some kind of inspiration\, a melody\, a rhythm\, a vibe; feeling some kind of spark and bringing it to the band. The goal was to get a fire going.

SUMMARY:Railroad Earth at The Stone Pony
DESCRIPTION:For over two decades\, Railroad Earth has captivated audiences with gleefully unpredictable live shows and eloquent and elevated studio output. The group introduced its signature sound on 2001’s The Black Bear Sessions. Between selling out hallowed venues such as Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison\, CO\, they’ve launched the longstanding annual Hangtown Music Festival in Placerville\, CA and Hillberry: The Harvest Moon Festival in Ozark\, AR—both running for a decade-plus. Sought after by legends\, the John Denver Estate tapped them to put lyrics penned by the late John Denver to music on the 2019 vinyl EP\, Railroad Earth: The John Denver Letters. Beyond tallying tens of millions of streams\, the collective have earned widespread critical acclaim from David Fricke of Rolling Stone\, American Songwriter\, Glide Magazine\, and NPR who assured\, “Well-versed in rambling around\, as you might expect from a band named after a Jack Kerouac poem\, the New Jersey-built jam-grass engine Railroad Earth has let no moss grow under its rustic wheels.” \n

SUMMARY:Pigeons Playing Ping Pong at Madison Theater (Covington\, KY)
DESCRIPTION:For Pigeons Playing Ping Pong\, music is a living flame—one demanding relentless tending\, fresh kindling\, and the collective breath of community to sustain it. On their eighth studio album\, Feed The Fire ( No Coincidence Records)\, the Baltimore quartet—Greg Ormont [vocals\, guitar]\, Jeremy Schon [guitar\, vocals]\, Ben Carrey [bass\, vocals]\, and Alex “Gator” Petropulos [drums\, vocals]—push their psychedelic funk odyssey into its most expansive incarnation yet. Across 17 years\, eight albums\, and countless sweat-soaked performances\, Pigeons have mastered transformation\, deepening their connection with their devoted fanbase and channeling life’s seismic shifts into fuel for their unquenchable fire. “The ‘fire’ represents our passion\,” explains Ormont. “Making music feels like something we were born to do. Feed The Fire is the perfect metaphor for our unwavering commitment to keep evolving.” Significant milestones\, from headlining major stages to their fan-centric Domefest\, underscore their remarkable journey. \nFeed The Fire shatters boundaries through adventurous collaboration. The band invited Nashville virtuoso Wes Bailey (Moon Taxi) to co-write the title track’s spiraling guitar hooks—a first for the group. “As soon as I played him the demo\, he came up with the soaring lead melody on the spot\,” recalls Schon. “It ended up being our first true collaborative writing experience.” In another debut\, Ben Carrey steps into the lead vocal spotlight on his heartfelt groove anthem “Hit The Ground Runnin’.” Horn collaborators Here Come The Mummies and West End Blend amplify tracks like “Fantasy” and “Calm Before The Storm\,” while guest producer Chalk Dinosaur enhances the psychedelic layers on “Twitch” and “Underworld.” \nThe band’s relentless evolution is evident in standout tracks like the buoyantly infectious “Right Track\,” which distills their live energy into a concise message of resilience and self-trust. According to Schon\, “Every album we make is a reflection of where we are personally and musically. For Feed The Fire\, we really leaned into exploring textures\, pushing our boundaries\, and letting the songs guide us.” From the patient disco-funk simmer of “Fantasy” to the driving rebel cry of “Undivided\,” the album showcases the band’s sharpened musicianship and rhythmic intuition. \nUltimately\, Feed The Fire is more than an album title—it’s a rallying cry emblematic of Pigeons Playing Ping Pong’s enduring philosophy. Refreshingly dynamic\, powerfully resonant\, and irresistibly danceable\, it marks a milestone release poised to captivate listeners across genres. Ormont sums it up perfectly: “We’ve been given the gift of this fire\, this passion. So it’s our responsibility to nurture it\, embrace it\, and spread it wild. Because when the band and fans reach new heights together\, that’s the real spark.”

SUMMARY:Mothguts 20th Anniversary Show with We Used to Cut the Grass and Mono Means One at Wonder Bar
DESCRIPTION:Mothguts 20th Anniversary Show \nWe Used to Cut the Grass \nMono Means One \nMOTHGUTS \nMothguts is a New Jersey–based instrumental quartet known for smashing together the worlds of death metal\, free jazz\, grunge\, grindcore\, noise\, and sludge into a relentless sonic assault. Founded in 2005\, the band has carved out a reputation for fearless experimentation\, chaotic energy\, and a sound that refuses to be contained by genre. \nThe lineup features Mike Noordzy on bass\, Ben Ross on drums\, Anthony Ware on alto saxophone\, and Chris Welcome on guitar. Together\, they’ve cultivated a brutal yet boundary-defying aesthetic\, marked by blistering improvisation and crushing heaviness. \nNow celebrating their 20th anniversary\, Mothguts remains a singular force in the underground\, revered for their uncompromising creativity and blistering live shows. Two decades in\, the band continues to blur boundaries and challenge listeners with music that is as punishing as it is visionary. \nWE USED TO CUT THE GRASS \nWe Used to Cut the Grass is a shapeshifting experimental ensemble led by composer/bassist Cody McCorry\, most frequently appearing as a 10-piece band known for heavy brass and two tightly synchronized drum kits. Heavily inspired by the likes of Frank Zappa\, John Zorn and Sun Ra\, the band has roots in the blurred zone between progressive rock and jazz fusion\, but has since stretched further into post-rock and experimental endeavors\, reaching from orchestral/chamber works to absurdist sound collage. The group’s sophomore album\, “We Used to Cut the Grass #2\,” is the follow up to their similarly self-titled album released in 2022. It has been described by math rock periodical Fecking Bahamas as “a much needed joyride.” On the album and its composer\, Prog Critique has this to say: “I don’t know if he’s a genius or a brilliant madman… [the album] surprises\, it disorients\, as much as it captivates… have we ever seen a band cover such a rich palette?” \nMONO MEANS ONE \nMono Means One is a psychedelic prog trio and the brainchild of bassist and composer John Ferrara\, best known as the bass player and co-founder of the acclaimed world fusion band “Consider the Source.” Mono Means One’s sound contains melancholic melodies\, rich sonic textures with Drum ‘N’ Bass grooves and Mathrock sensibilities. Half composed and half improvised\, the music is often dark\, with moments of calm serenity and other times heavy\, oscillating between chill grooves to almost unbearable intensity. Originally composed entirely on the bass guitar\, John paired up with Rob Madore (Drums) and Isaac Young (Keys) to add intensely nuanced beats with futuristic colorful sonic textures. All three members produce a sound that is powerful and unique all to their own. \nFerrara has been dubbed the “Unsung Genius” of bass tapping by bass sensation Charles Berthoud\, is a teacher at Scotts Bass Lessons\, and has been featured in Bass Magazine\, NoTreble\, Bass Musician magazine among many other publications.

SUMMARY:Kitchen Dwellers at Madison Live (Covington\, KY)
DESCRIPTION:In Dante’s Inferno\, the author grapples with sin\, its various manifestations\, and its consequences. This time ultimately traces a trajectory of self-realization\, acceptance\, and accountability. Kitchen Dwellers embark on a similar odyssey over the course of their fourth full-length offering\, Seven Devils. The Montana quartet—Shawn Swain [Mandolin]\, Torrin Daniels [Banjo]\, Joe Funk [Upright Bass]\, and Max Davies [Acoustic Guitar]—thread together an immersive and inimitable conceptual arc inspired by Dante’s Inferno and set to a soundtrack of folk-infused bluegrass spiked with psychedelic vision and rock energy. \nContinuing their own journey as brothers\, they deliver their most ambitious and anthemic body of work yet. \n“These tunes deal with the human experience\, and Torrin initially drew a parallel between the music and Dante\,” Max states. “We explored the connection by correlating each song with a sin. Some of these connections are only apparent if you dive deep into the lyrics. Our goal is to essentially take the listener through our own interpretation of the Inferno story.” \n“We didn’t go into the studio with the intent of making a concept album\,” recalls Torrin. “I was driving around listening to everything\, and I noticed these parallels. To dive deeper\, we’re discussing topics like mental health\, the human condition\, and what we go through on the road. In life and music\, everything is recurring and universal. I was reading Dante at the time\, and it naturally fit.” \nIt proved to be a logical next step as well… \nThus far\, Kitchen Dwellers have engaged and enraptured listeners with albums such as Ghost In The Bottle [2017]\, Muir Maid [2019]\, Live from the Wilma [2021]\, and Wise River [2022]. Of the latter\, Holler. praised how “Kitchen Dwellers have preserved their sense of youthful experimentation\,” and Relix proclaimed\, “The songs on the new record build on this range\, while also reflecting on the group’s Bozeman\, Montana home.” Between tallying millions of streams\, the band ignited hallowed venues such as Red Rocks Amphitheatre and graced the bills of Telluride Bluegrass\, Northwest String Summit\, WinterWonderGrass\, and beyond. \nIn order to bring Seven Devils to life\, the musicians opted to work with producer Glenn Brown. It would not only mark their first time collaborating with the producer\, but it also would be the first time they decamped to Michigan in order to record. \n“The studio itself definitely impacted the vibe\,” Torrin notes. “It’s a tiny workspace\, but it’s full of old recording equipment with legendary stories attached to it. For almost the entire time\, we were forced to congregate in this room together. The process was ever-evolving\, because ideas kept flowing.” \nFittingly\, “Seven Devils (Limbo)” opens the album and serves as the first single. Nimbly picked banjo and upbeat acoustic guitar set the pace as the regretful chorus bemoans\, “Am I supposed to hop the next train? Or stand here drowning in the Oregon rain?” A guitar-driven bridge dips in and out of effects-laden echoes and stark strumming. Coming full circle\, a ten-minute version of “Seven Devils” later bookends the record with an epic finale. \n“I incorporated some elements of grunge in terms of the chords\, which are a little dissonant\,” Torrin elaborates. “Thematically\, it’s the descent into Hell. First\, Dante goes through limbo before reaching any of the circles where the cardinal sins are addressed. ‘Seven Devils’  evokes the feeling of being in limbo.” \n“It also signifies you’re embarking on some type of journey\,” Max agrees. “By the end of the LP\, you know the protagonist isn’t going to be the same person.” \nThen\, there’s “The Crow and The Raven (III).” The track’s emotionally charged vocals seesaw on top of strings in a moment of terse reflection. “I went through a horrible breakup in 2018 when I wrote the first version\,” Shawn remembers. “‘The Crow and The Raven (III)’ sat in my notebook for a half-decade before we revamped it. Now\, it’s a sad\, slower lament about enduring the loss of a relationship.” \n“Pendulum” rushes towards a mournful refrain offset by a plucky crescendo. “It’s about dealing with an addiction in your life and how it affects relationships\,” Joe says. “People often trade one addiction for another\, whether positive or detrimental to their life\, as a means to satisfy their baseline addictive tendencies.” \nOn the other end of the spectrum\, “Here We Go (VI)” laments the epidemic of shootings in America with unfiltered frustration projected through a powerful ebb and flow punctuated by a cameo from Lindsay Lou. \n“I was riding a Greyhound from Seattle to Missoula in 2012\,” Max goes on. “There had just been another school shooting. It’s terrible to think of how many shootings have happened since. Why is this happening? The chorus shifts gears to miscommunication between two parties in a relationship. Those are the two driving forces.” \nAn electric guitar lead heralds the onset of “Unwind (Paradiso)\,” building towards one climactic moment of catharsis. \n“A psychedelic experience and life-changing ego death changed my outlook on many things\,” Torrin admits. “‘Unwind (Paradiso)’ was one of those moments where you surrender and let it take you. You’re letting go of the human things in your brain that make you want to fight or cause you to be afraid. It also came together in the studio as a band\, which was super cool.” \nIn the end\, Kitchen Dwellers may just leave you changed with Seven Devils. \n“The record is a trip inward within the self\,” Torrin concludes. “It tackles a lot of things in the world people try not to think about. The reality is we’re only truly happy when happiness comes from within. That’s the message.”

SUMMARY:Durry w/ VIAL at Wonder Bar
DESCRIPTION:After years of grinding the local Minneapolis music scene\, Austin Durry was back at square one. He had been touring and making music with his act at the time\, but that all shut down with the rest of the world when COVID happened. Temporarily\, he and his wife decided to move back home and joined his parents and younger sister Taryn to figure out their next move. However\, instead of giving up on his dream\, Austin and Taryn started Durry\, a band that would change the trajectory of their lives forever. “Durry formed really naturally in the early pandemic days and then we had a song pop off in 2021 and all of the sudden we’re a legit band and trying to do it\,” he explains. \nAustin is referring to the song “Who’s Laughing Now” and its accompanying video\, which sees Austin and Taryn—along with bassist (and Austin’s wife) Ashley Durry and drummer Dane Hoppe—rocking out in the basement of the Durry’s childhood home as they sing about following their dream against the odds. In a meta sense the premise of the song is exactly what it accomplished for the emerging act. (The video for the song currently has 1.5 million views on YouTube and over two million likes on TikTok.) “The whole thing was so unexpected\,” Austin says of the viral smash\, which propelled the band’s 2023 debut Suburban Legend into the mainstream consciousness. “I had been toying around with the song and Taryn hadn’t even heard [the final mix] yet; I just made a little video and posted it and suddenly we went from having 20 followers to having 6\,000. We have this horrible habit of having songs go viral unexpectedly and then being totally unprepared for it.” \nIn that spirit Durry hasn’t released any new music in a year\, a fact that’s all about to change with the release of the band’s sophomore album This Movie Sucks. “Our first record was really pieced together whenever we could afford to pay for time in the studio\, but for this record we sat down and wrote songs for six months and just whittled it down to the best ones\,” Austin explains. “It was really refreshing just being totally intentional about the entire vision right from the start and then going into a really legit studio and having a producer with all the songs finished when we got there\,” he continues. “When we made the last album\, I had never been in a studio before\, so I feel like I’ve gained a lot more confidence and skills over time\,” Taryn adds. \nThe embargo on new music may not have been easy for the group\, but their heightened levels of confidence and production are evident on each song on This Movie Sucks. From the fuzzed-out wake-up call of the opener “Bully” to the jangly powerful pop of “More Dumb” and the intricately arranged ballad “IDK I Just Work Here\,” the new album continually showcases Durry’s musical versatility. “I think that people are going to cling to different songs because the genre of the album is very wide\,” Austin says. “There are acoustic songs\, there are folk songs and punk songs and listeners will latch onto different parts of it and everyone can find their slice.” Taryn agrees adding\, “Everyone who has listened to the album seems to have a different favorite song and I think that’s really unique. We do touch on a lot of different genres and styles but somehow we’ve been able to still make it cohesive and I think that’s a big win.” \nLyrically\, This Movie Sucks touches on universal themes such as prolonged grief\, the toxic nature of Internet culture and remembering loved ones. One especially poignant song is “The Long Goodbye\,” an acoustic ballad that sees Austin and Tayrn dueting about the people in their lives that they have lost over a stripped-down arrangement.“I think with this album we’ve really been able to figure out where our two voices sit with each other and we had a lot more time with my harmonies this time around as far as what could help add to the song\,” Taryn explains. These relatable themes—augmented by Durry’s idiosyncratic sense of humor—and the way these two siblings are able to come together musically adds a level of poignancy to the songs on This Movie Sucks that is present through both its most jubilant and vulnerable moments. \nBut ultimately This Movie Sucks is a celebration\, not just of the current moment but of the way Durry has transformed a negative situation into a creative outlet that has connected them with other people all over the globe. “If we weren’t forced to slow down [due to the pandemic]\, I don’t think any of this would have happened\,” Austin admits. “Moving back home was a really humbling experience but it was really good.” This sentiment is captured on the Suburban Legend song “Losers Club\,” a synth-heavy ode to finding joy when life doesn’t turn out the way you thought it would. “That song is about accepting your place and being OK with it—and that ended up being a tent pole song for us and our fans refer to themselves as the ‘Losers Club.’” \nDurry may have started out as an internet sensation championed by unlikely advocates like Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst\, but after spending the past few years touring the country and honing their craft\, they want to show the world that they are a seasoned act\, who remain involved in every aspect of their career—from the merch to the songs to the videos. “We’ve been able to have more resources with this album and get help when we need it but we’re still trying to maintain the whole DIY nature of the band while also keeping the quality as high as we can\,” Austin explains. “Our hands are in every part of this band and meeting our own quality standards are really important to us\,” he adds. “We have a super unified vision and feel like everything goes together—and that’s why things can take so long\, but that’s so important to us.”

SUMMARY:Daniel Donato's Cosmic Country at The Stone Pony
DESCRIPTION:There are a lot of musical influences and sources that Daniel Donato has drawn on during his career and that inform Reflector (Retrace Music)\, the Nashville guitarist-singer-songwriter-band leader’s first all-original album. But within those Donato has carved out a unique and individualized spot for himself\, one that speaks to the deep American music heritage that inspires him — and that he’s pushing towards the future with inspired\, intentional vigor. \nHe calls it Cosmic Country\, a moniker that’s both self-descriptive and a statement of purpose. It’s an organic rock band aesthetic with plenty of roadhouse twang\, a showcase for Donato’s instrumental virtuosity and facility for melodically infectious songcraft. Bridging Nashville and the Great West\, Kentucky and mid-60s northern California\, tie-dye and plaid\, it’s a world of his own\, and wide world of musical adventure at that. \n“I think Cosmic Country is a tale as old as time\, really\,” Donato explains. “It’s yin and yang in a musical form. It’s three chords and the truth\, and then on the other side it’s exploration and bravery. I really went through a lot of years of grinding\, and still am\, to achieve this sound which is a vehicle for my personality\, and the personality is a vehicle for my soul. So (Reflector) is more that than any other record I ever put out.” \nMore at https://danieldonato.com/
